Sharing information with family members and law enforcement

Register today for a VCH/PHC education event open to all staff and the public to introduce a new way of thinking about privacy and confidentiality. It will have an emphasis on how this relates to sharing information with law enforcement and families. It is within this context of information sharing that the new Regional Family Involvement with the Mental Health & Addiction Services policy will be introduced.

The session will include:

  • A presentation from VCH Legal Services on privacy and disclosing client information
  • A presentation about the Family Involvement Policy
  • A panel discussion with various stakeholders who will provide their perspective on a number of case scenarios related to information sharing within the Circle of Care:
    • Mae Burrows – President “From Grief to Action” as family member
    • Kathy Christakis – Patient Services Coordinator, VGH
    • Dr. Eric Grafstein – Regional Department Head, Emergency Medicine, VCH-PHC, Regional Emergency Services Council Co-Chair
    • Darren Kopetsky – Regional Director, Client Relations & Risk Management, VCH
    • Cynthia Startup – Director Regional Clinical Services Planning/Strategic Development Emergency/Trauma (Cynthia will be the moderator of the discussion)
    • Howard Tran – Vancouver Police Department
    • Dr. Lakshmi Yatham – Regional Head, Department of Psychiatry VCH/PHC, Regional Program Medical Director, Mental Health & Addiction Services
    • A Mental Health & Addiction consumer
