ShakeOut-Oct 17: Drop, cover and hold on
On October 17 at 10:17a.m., thousands of British Columbians will “Drop, Cover and Hold on” in the “Great British Columbia ShakeOut”, the largest earthquake drill in Canadian History!
Here is how to join the drill on October 17:
- At 10:17 a.m. on October 17 “Drop, Cover and Hold” on for 2 minutes under sturdy furniture or crouch beside an inner wall and protect you neck and head with your arms. After the drill, have a group huddle and talk about potential hazards related to earthquakes.
- Take a few minutes to complete the Safety Inspection Checklist which focuses on emergency preparedness planning. Joint Occupational Safety and Health Committees or department staff can use the checklist as a guide for monthly inspections. This checklist can also be used to assess your department’s emergency preparedness on October 17. (see attachment)
- After wards, complete the ShakeOut BC campaign survey to enter into a draw for a $50 gift card from Mountain Equipment Co-op. Deadline to complete the survey is 4 p.m. October 25, 2013.
