Final Week: Clean Commuter Challenge: Wk 3!

Whether you’re logging-on to the GreenCare Community to keep an eye on the stories popping up on the site, or you’re waiting to hear how your team is doing, we’re in the final days of this year’s active and Clean Commuter Challenge.

Staff from PHSA, VCH, FH and PHC have been using the 3-week Challenge to try new commuting options, get fit and strong, or for those already active or using transit, this is a way to get a little recognition for their efforts.

We have prizes for Top Reducers, Top Avoiders, Top Team and Top in Category.

Current Stats

VCH is leading the way in CO2 reduced by Health Authority with Fraser nipping at their heals.

On the Teams front, the tongue twisting “Clean Commuting Communicators” have a slim lead over the creatively named “Gang Green” … with a number of teams not far behind – looks like it’ll be a race to the line!

Shout-Outs

Throughout the Challenge, we have asked our Clean Commuters for stories from the bike-path / transit system or ride shares. Log-on to the BCGreenCare.ca for the full list of Shout-Outs, and check-out this sampling below:

Shout-out & Kudos to “Clean Commuting Communicators” at Fraser Health – this 5-person team is taking transit, car-sharing and telecommuting to the next level, cutting greenhouse gas emissions and fighting for top spot!

Shout-Out & Kudos to “Raven Song Dirt Devils” of VCH, who work at Raven Song Community Health Centre. They mainly walk and cycle to work, many even jumping on their bikes for community visits, when weather permits!

Shout-out & Kudos to RCH Rehab team consisted of physiotherapists, occupational therapists and rehab assistants from Royal Columbian Hospital. A mix of commuters but a strong group who enjoy long-distance cycle commuting!

Recognizing our Avoiders & Reducers!

The Commuter Challenge has been designed to recognize all those people that already practice sustainable commuting – we call these people “Avoiders”. As well as those that change their behaviour over the 3-week Challenge – we call these people “Reducers”.
