Step away from your chair – and walk. Regularly

Take a STAND against sitting

If you’re not careful, time can get away from you and you’ve sat the entire day. Despite one’s best intentions, there is often something more important to do than getting up and taking a walk.

Although there seems to be a lot more discussion going around about the “perils of sitting” making these small changes can seem rather difficult until they become a priority. Just like getting up on time to go to work! So maybe, it just might be time to set an alarm to get yourself to walk now.

Set a reminder to walk now.

Set a reminder to walk now.

By setting an alarm for a suitable time each day, you can build a healthy routine into your schedule for getting up and going for a walk. You might choose to run an errand. Or, maybe it will be a trip to the mail room, or to get a coffee, or some other item that will get you out of your seat and sitting less.

Come join us

If you are looking to get outside for a friendly, 30-min breath of fresh air, join a WednesdayWALK at 12:15pm each week. Staff near VGH are invited to meet at the Commuter Centre.

For all other sites, please contact us as we have tools and resources (and umbrellas!) to help you expand our WednesdayWALK network.

Whenever you do it, wherever you do it, aim to move more and sit less.
