Dear EFAP

Thank you to those who have written to “dear efap” for input on your dilemmas. As you are aware, we read every inquiry that comes in but we are only able to print a small selection of responses. Our “pithy” answers are modeled after the lighter hearted Dear Abby style and are grounded in common sense. If your issues require a more personalized level of support please call EFAP (1-800-505-4929) and we can confidentially book you a counselling appointment with a senior level therapist.

Below is our response to the next selection – enjoy!
Dear-EFAP-picture3I have the worst neighbours known to man. They stay up all night partying, there is constantly an “herbal” smell emanating from their place and in the summer, with the windows open, it becomes particularly “fragrant.” They play loud music well into the wee hours of the morning and they often have wild verbal arguments that seem to be fuelled by Jack Daniels. They don’t shovel in the winter, they don’t rake in the fall, and they don’t mow in the summer. Their recycling bin is never put and their garbage is constantly overflowing, feeding the neighbourhood raccoons. And, in spite of asking them (the neighbours, not the raccoons) nicely to clean up they refuse to. So, I either have to do it or deal with the grossness of living with it all over the lane behind my house. I can’t sleep and I’m getting sick over it – it’s truly and completely driving me crazy. I know that the real estate market is up in my area and I’m told I could make a lot of money on it. I do love my place and my garden but the idea of no mortgage, a little smaller garden, and a ton of peace of mind sounds appealing. I just, for the life of me, can’t make up my mind. What do you think I should do?

Dear My Neighbours Are Nightmares,
