Examination gloves are single use and should never be cleaned with sanitizer. Remove your gloves and clean your hands. Also remember it is important that you clean your hands before putting on gloves.

Why is this person wearing gloves while using hand sanitizer? The hand sanitizer is applied directly to hands before wearing the gloves. And gloves are not to be re-used.

If there is a need for hand hygiene, doing it with gloves on could actually lead to the transmission of germs.
Hand hygeine should occur after removing gloves.

The gloves should be removed and discarded before applying hand sanitizer to your bare hands. Then, if you need to wear gloves again find a clean pair instead of reusing old dirty ones.

  20. Mary Romao

Dispose of the gloves and then use sanitizer on bare skin.

Never put sanitizer on gloves. Bare hands are washed then gloved. Santizer is a Plan B approach if there is no water or soap available and in a hospital or facility this should not be the case.
Not sure if this is a patient, staff member or a visitor but:
    1. a staff member should know the correct HH protocol.
    2. if this is a patient or a visitor they should be advised by a staff member of the correct HH protocol.

If you are a cleaner, checking to see if there is product in the dispenser, okay wear the gloves.

ANYBODY ELSE – DISCARD AFTER USE DON’T WASH THEM WITH ANYTHING!

Sanitize your hand before wearing and after removing gloves. Why sanitize gloves when they are disposable. I hate to say I’ve seen this done by staff – No good reason given for this practice.

you don’t have to use sanitizer on your disposable cloves.
scary thing is that there is probably someone in the Organisation that sees nothing wrong with that pic.

    May 6, 2016

You use hand santizer on skin not on gloves. Using the santizer on gloves implies that they are going to be used again and they are a one time only use.

Remove and discard disposable dirty gloves. Use hand sanitizer if no sink is close and available, but full hand hygiene ritual is best practice.

    May 6, 2016
  31. Amy

Improper use of hand sanitizer by wearing disposable gloves. Hand sanitizers are meant for use on bare hands and not on disposable gloves. Also, this is the wrong way of practising hand hygiene based on the hand hygiene standards. This person should also wash hands before and after wearing gloves, come in contact with soiled items, after returning from the bathroom, before and after tending to a patient, before leaving for breaks and after returning from break, before eating, upon entering and leaving the department. This person should also dispose of the gloves and wash their hands before using the hand sanitizer. Disposable gloves are not meant to be used on hand sanitizers. I think of this as cross contamination because I don’t know where those hands have been before touching the hand sanitizer.

  32. Louise

OMG, take those gloves off first! Disposable gloves are just that – disposable! They are not reusable. Take them off, then do the hand hygiene. Wow.

    May 5, 2016
  33. Kylie Naples

Prior to putting on gloves, you must wash or sanitize your hands before donning the gloves. Once you remove gloves, you must wash or sanitize your hands immediately afterwards.

We sanitize, wash and clean our hands, not disposable gloves…we dispose of the disposable gloves 🙂

Hi Folks! Sanitize them hands but without the gloves on – kill the real germs on your bare hands!
Wash, wash, wash! Sanitize, sanitize, sanitize! Equals: Squeeky clean hands! Have a great day 🙂

Medical gloves are disposable and meant for single use. The gloves should be removed before handwashing or sanitizing.

    May 5, 2016
  38. Leanna

    Gloves are never cleaned!
Hand hygiene is performed before patient contact and before donning gloves.
Hand hygiene is performed after patient contact and after the doffing of gloves.

    May 5, 2016
  39. Zori Kaneva

Gloves should be taken off after every use and replaced with new gloves. Hand sanitizer is for skin use not for disposable gloves.

    May 5, 2016
  40. Carman

Hand sanitizer should not be used over disposable gloves. Gloves should be one-time use and should be thrown away after used. The hand sanitizer is for our bare hands. Proper hand washing techniques should be used if bare hands are soiled.

    May 5, 2016
  41. Carolyn Summerfield

Never sanitize gloves. Take the gloves off and sanitize your hands!

    May 5, 2016
  42. Felecia Ahluwalia

Hand sanitizer should be used on your skin – not on disposable gloves. Gloves should be changed – not sanitized and reused. Ew!

    May 5, 2016
  43. Teresa

Hand sanitizer shouldn’t be used on disposable gloves. Hands should be sanitized and dried before putting on gloves, and then rewashed or sanitized after removing disposable gloves.

    May 5, 2016
  44. Arri Aruelo

Gloves should be removed before using hand sanitizer or hand washing. Gloves should have been removed after point of care THEN one can use sanitizer on bare hands!

    May 5, 2016
  45. Yolanda Russell

If gloves have been used, remove them before putting sanitizer directly on the hands. Then put on a fresh pair of clean gloves.

    May 5, 2016
  46. ingrid

using hand sanitizer should be done prior to donning gloves… and after glove removal.

    May 5, 2016
  47. Maja Olson

Well, I’m not a clinician, but my understanding is that you should not use the same gloves from person to person. I understand that you should use handsanitizer on your bare hands when the option to use warm water and soap is not available as a first choice, then put gloves on your clean hands. The other thing I wonder about is if the chemical compound in the sanitizer could possibly break down the integrity of the gloves – a double-whammy!

    May 5, 2016
  48. Paula Machado

Hand sanitizer is for skin not disposable gloves! Change the gloves, do not sanitize and reuse!

    May 5, 2016
  49. Denise G

Looks like used gloves (since you would not clean fresh gloves) are touching the dispensing part of the hand sanitizer.

    May 5, 2016
  50. Sarah

One use for disposible gloves. Hand sanitzer is for use on bare hands that are not visibly soiled.

    May 5, 2016
  51. Julian Jamieson

Gloves are one time use. Once used, they need to be disposed of correctly in the correct waste containers. Hand cleaner is to be used on direct skin to skin contact each and every time before and after patient contact. It does not replace hand washing.

    May 5, 2016
  52. Karen Mok

The correct way to use gloves is to first sanitize hands, wait for the sanitizer to dry completely, then put on gloves. HH should also be performed after glove removal due to the possibility of holes in the gloves. Sanitizer should never be used while hands are gloved and disposable gloves should not be reused.

    May 5, 2016
    • Judy McTaggart

Gloves are for a one time use. I don’t think sanitizer works on any type of glove. You could be spreading bacteria to many surfaces.

      May 5, 2016
  53. Morgan

You shouldn’t use sanitizer on gloves. They should be disposed of, hands should be washed then put on new gloves.

    May 5, 2016
  54. G

Sanitize your HANDS prior to wearing the gloves and after taking it off as the gloves weren’t meant to be used multiple times. Hence why are you sanitizing the gloves?!?! Dispose them!

    May 5, 2016
  55. Laurel

Gloves are for one time use only and cannot be cleaned using hand sanitizer. Handsanitizer is for cleaning hands that do not appear visibly soiled.

    May 5, 2016
  56. Lori Nobes

Don’t use hand sanitizer on gloves.

    May 5, 2016
  57. Danielle

You can’t use hand sanitizer to clean gloves! You need to remove the gloves, wash your hands, then don a new pair of clean gloves, if needed.

    May 5, 2016
  58. Bala Pillay

Gloves should be taken off before using hand hygiene machine.

    May 5, 2016
  59. Liz Fawaz

The person is using a sanitizer with gloves on, why not sanitize your hand or if you’re going to use the same gloves, might as well use another disposable glove.

    May 5, 2016
  60. victor

    Shouldn’t sanitize gloves

    May 5, 2016
  61. Monica Jackman

Why would you be washing a pair of disposable gloves unless you were planning to reuse them? Disposable gloves must never be reused…..

    May 5, 2016
  62. Naomi Fraser

Change gloves, do not reuse gloves and do not use hand sanitzer on them…use sanitzer directly on skin
