A new chapter begins for Mike Nader

It is with mixed emotion that I share the news that Mike Nader has resigned as Chief Operating Officer – Coastal for Vancouver Coastal Health.

Mike is leaving VCH to commence a new and challenging journey as the Executive VP of Clinical Operations and Practice for the University Health Network (UHN) in Toronto, Ontario. While I am sad to lose Mike from our Senior Executive Team, I am delighted that he has been given such an opportunity. Our loss will certainly be UHN’s gain.

I know that his decision to leave was an extremely difficult one. Mike began his health care journey as a systems analyst 26 years ago and has progressed through a variety of leadership roles in Vancouver, Richmond and Coastal. Among his achievements was the development of the VCH regional Medical Imaging and Biomedical Engineering team which led to him becoming the inaugural Executive Director of Lower Mainland Integrated Medical Imaging Services. In this position, Mike standardized work processes across all sites using LEAN while also reducing supply costs. Under his leadership, we realized many more procedures within a static budget to the benefit of patients.

Mike first joined the VCH Senior Executive Team in 2012 as Chief Operating Officer – Richmond and Executive Lead of the Clinical & Systems Transformation (CST) project. Two years later, he became the Chief Operating Officer – Coastal where he has supported LEAN and Releasing Time to Care to standardize processes and improve outcomes. Under his leadership, the Coastal CoC has continued to strengthen relationships with multiple Aboriginal communities as well as the rural and remote geographies. He also oversaw the opening of the new HOpe Centre and the development of the concept plan for the Lions Gate Hospital campus. Most recently, he has taken on the leadership for the implementation of CST in that Community of Care.

During his time here, Mike has demonstrated an outstanding commitment to improving the efficiency, innovation and sustainability of VCH in many ways.

Mike is expected to remain at VCH until late-August to ensure continuity of leadership and experience. In the coming weeks I will work with the Senior Executive Team and others to identify a process for replacing him and update you when I know more. In the meantime, I encourage you to join me in thanking Mike for his excellent commitment and contribution to VCH and to wish him, his wife Christina (also a VCH employee) and their family well on their new adventures in Toronto.

This really is VCH’s loss and UHN’s gain. I went to Royal Roads with Mike a few years back and even at that time he was a “rising star’ in healthcare.

I know we havent seen much of each other over the years Mike, but all the best for the future!

Dont forget your old Royal Roads buddies at your leaving party – we are overdue a re- union as it is….

    Cheers

      Hi Andrew,

How could I forget the ‘Royal Rogues’? Would absolutely love to have a Royal Roads reunion at the departure party, but only as long as the old photos and evidence remains in the vault. Remember, who happened at Royal Roads stays at Royal Roads. ☺️

  2. Susanne Mouris

    Good Morning Mr. Nader,

You and I have never met personally; however, I was the recipient of a letter you sent to me. This letter was of great encouragement during a time when my actions, while supporting a Mental Health Client, was under scrutiny by many 🙂

My name is Susanne Mouris and one of my Client’s became the topic of conversation by the Media: In the newspaper and on CBC News.

I wanted to personally thank you one day and now you’re leaving. Although my opportunity may now have passed, Please accept my utmost gratitude to you for taking the time out of your very busy schedule to address a very complex situation presented by the Media.

Thank you for your Insightfulness and Wisdom when you addressed the view point of the Media to VCH employees.

Working with individuals with addictions and mental illness is challenging but the Most Rewarding. Thank you for confirming to me my goal to stay in the filed of Social Work until retirement.

VCH will surely feel the loss of your presence. I wish you all the best with your move and your new adventure in Toronto.

    Forever Appreciative,
    Susanne Mouris
