National Indigenous cultural safety webinar series launches September 29

PHSA Indigenous Health launches a new national Indigenous Cultural Safety (ICS) Learning Series this month in partnership with the Southwestern Ontario Aboriginal Health Access Centre. At each interactive online session, guest speakers will present on topics related to Indigenous cultural safety. This monthly webinar series aims to support professionals in advocating for, developing and implementing culturally safe policy and practice in their organizations.

The first webinar on September 29 from 10:30 a.m. to 12 noon PST covers: “Setting the Context for Indigenous Cultural Safety: Facing Racism in Health”. Presenters are Dr. Janet Smylie (Métis Nation of Ontario) of St. Michael’s Hospital, Centre for Urban Health Solutions in Toronto and Cheryl Ward (‘Namgis Nation, Vancouver Island, BC), provincial lead for San’yas Indigenous Cultural Safety Training and interim director of PHSA Indigenous Health.
