Make a difference for your workplace and the planet

Are you looking for tools, ideas and collaborators to help green your workplace?

Green+Leader Program registration opens February 1st for all VCH employees who want to be part of this change-making community across the Lower Mainland Health Organizations.

From improved recycling, to patio gardens, to Earth Day nature challenges, and much more Green+Leaders work in many ways to have a positive impact on the planet and their workplace. Program participants receive leadership training and toolkits, plus access to fun and engaging events to connect with like-minded colleagues. Registration is open to all VCH employees who want to make a difference when it comes to topics like recycling, smart energy, clean transportation options and more.

Here’s what some Green+Leaders have said about their experience.

“I like knowing that, even in a small way, I am helping to curb environmental changes for future generations. We have greatly improved recycling practices in our Facility, just in the past 4 years, which I am very proud of.”

“I like being a part of a group who passionately wants to make a difference so we can all live in a better healthier environment …”

Some units use paper towels for pericare and towels/faceclothes..while others use non-biodegradable wipes that come in plastic wrap that are used every time a person needs to be cleaned up. These cost money to the system as well cost to the environment… I think the Sage Wipes need to go. It is not even a uniform practice in the hospital, and we did without this product for the 16 if the 18 years I’ve worked at VGH. It would also be nice if we could find an environmental product for incontinence pads. We need to think of the stress on the environment, as it reflects back to our health.

So….today we opened our pay envelopes to find a nice, glossy, IN COLOUR notice re: absence-line calls. It elicited many comments, none of them favourable. We do not want or require notices like this in colour. Going Green? Lead by example, VCH.
