Dear EFAP: I am happy

Thank you to those who have written to “Dear EFAP” for input on your dilemmas. As you are aware, we read every inquiry that comes in but we are only able to print a small selection of responses.  Our “pithy” answers are modeled after the lighter hearted Dear Abby style and are grounded in common sense.  If your issues require a more personalized level of support please call EFAP (1-800-505-4929) and we can confidentially book you a counselling appointment with a senior level therapist.

We welcome all inquiries – please submit these to dear.efap@efap.ca. All printed responses use the anonymous descriptor that you sign your inquiry with and do not reveal any identifying information.  Our goal is to support you through insight and common sense.

Below is our response to the next selection – enjoy!

Dear EFAP,

I am happy – the sun is shining and all is well in my world.   My partner and I are good, my family is doing well, and I love my work, so I decided to write and tell you how cool everything is right now.  I feel that you likely get enough “Sorry Sam” stories, so I figured that it might be nice to get some happy news.  So to that end: I love my work, I love my colleagues and I’m just feeling happy and wanted to share this with everyone

Dear Happy Human,

What a lovely note. Yes, you’re correct; I don’t get too many of these happy messages! How wonderful for you that things are going so well – taking care of you is key! So often we are good at taking care of our patients or our families but not so great at doing the same for ourselves, so good on you for that! I might recommend that you take a mindful moment and reflect on what it is that you’re currently doing and how those things are helping you to feel so great.  When the winter rolls around and the weather changes you may not be feeling quite so joyful,  so this list may come in handy get to get you back to this amazing, happy place! Enjoy it!!!! Thanks for sharing.
