Want to help patients make healthy behaviour changes? Sign up for a Healthy Living workshop!

Vancouver Communities’s Healthy Living Program offers programs to VCH employees that will help them their work as health care professionals.

Our two workshops “Step Up to the Plate” and “Access for All” have been completed by hundreds of nurses, dietitians, rehabilitation and recreation therapists, and social workers since 2010 and 2009, respectively.  Many have found the programs to be invaluable to their practice, and approaching behavior change recommendations necessary for chronic disease prevention and management.

“Step Up to the Plate” workshop

Offered in partnership with the VCH Regional Tobacco Reduction Program, this fun, interactive course covers topics centered on healthy eating, active living and tobacco reduction. If you are looking for a comprehensive tool kit of community resources to share with your clients, Step Up to the Plate is the program for you. Staff learn a brief and effective intervention technique called the 5 A’s to help them support healthy choices for clients.  Workshops can also be delivered on-site for a team greater than 8 people.

“Access for All” workshop

Offered in partnership with the YMCA of Greater Vancouver, the program is designed to inform health care professionals about financial subsidies available to clients who are unable to afford full membership rates, and would benefit from services offered at the YMCA.  This simple 30 minute online tutorial provides an overview to staff on the types of subsidies available for clients and the referral process.
