The rain coast: where we live and work and bike

Sunny days and rainy days: it’s either one or the other in southern British Columbia. That’s why HUB has both a spring and an autumn Bike to Work Week.

Autum Bike to Work Week 2017

October 23-29th is Bike to Work Week with two VCH Celebration Stations

  • VGH Mon Oct 23rd 7-9:30 at the Cycling Centre
  • LGH Wed Oct 25th 6:30-9 outside the HOpe Centre

Riding in the colder weather

Autumn and winter riding involves the readiness for those cloudy days when it could rain. So, a key tip is to recognize that your summer ride might take a bit longer in November. Wet weather, fallen leaves and fewer daylight hours all suggest that cyclists pay more attention.

If you commuted by bike this past spring and summer, why not consider extending your active commute? Autumn and winter cycling asks only that you prepare for the wet weather, shorter days and cooler temperatures. Find out the tips and tricks and items to deal with the non-summer climate by dealing with:

  1. Water repellency
  2. Quick-dry gear
  3. Greater visibility
  4. Layering for warmth
