Respiratory therapists across VCH give back to critical care patients

In preparation for Respiratory Therapy (RT) Week 2017, RTs across VCH have teamed up to give back to their patients that they care for in critical care settings. During a given week, roughly 50 units of blood are given in the ICUs across VGH, LGH and Richmond Hospital.

The Respiratory Therapy group is setting a goal to replace the amount of blood needed in a week in ICU by teaming up to donate blood. To start things off – 8 Respiratory Therapists from VGH went together as a group to the Canadian Blood Services‘ Oak Street Clinic.

Why VCH respiratory therapists are donating blood

Respiratory Therapists work in various settings across VCH including ICU, ER, OR, in-patient wards and also in diagnostics, clinics and community settings. One way or another in their line of work, Respiratory Therapists see  the need for blood donation and the impact it has on patient care. A way to  support patient care outside of the hospital setting.
