Thank you for participating in ShakeOutBC!

Health Emergency Management BC (HEMBC) thanks all VCH employees for their enthusiastic participation in this year’s Great BC ShakeOut, the largest earthquake drill in Canadian history. HEMBC is proud to be a lead sponsor of ShakeOutBC.

ShakeOut BC 2017

More than 93,000* health care employees around the province joined over 860,000 people across BC this morning in practicing the ‘drop, cover and hold on’ drill, which is the internationally recognized action for protecting people during an earthquake.

Knowing what to do before, during and after an earthquake can help save lives and limit the damage caused by it. HEMBC, a PHSA program that provides emergency management leadership and support to BC’s health authorities, encourages all VCH employees to learn about emergency preparedness at work and at home.

Emergency preparedness at home

By planning in advance for personal and family safety, you can provide assistance and focus on the task at hand in the event of an emergency. Being properly prepared helps our community by ensuring that we continue to provide the best health care possible.

Mastering the drill is a great way to start earthquake preparedness. Now that you know the drill, here are a few steps to ramp up your personal preparedness:

  • Prepare an emergency kit
  • Make an emergency plan
  • Secure your workplace and home
  • Take the emergency preparedness course on Learning Hub

ShakeOutBC is done for 2017, but staying prepared requires effort year-round! Visit ShakeOutBC and PreparedBC for more info on personal preparedness.
