Report: Releasing Time to Care evaluation a VCH success story

A recent report by the BC Patient Safety & Quality Council shows that Vancouver Coastal Health continues to be at the forefront of quality improvement in BC. Thirty-three of the 53 active teams listed in the report are VCH teams. In particular, VCH has had a number of positive outcomes using the Releasing Time to Care quality improvement model, pioneered in the United Kingdom.

“We’ve been able to measure significant improvements in hand hygiene, reduced urinary tract infections, reduced patient aggression, MRSA infections and much more,” said Allison Muniak,  executive director, Quality and Patient Safety & Infection Control for VCH.

One measure where 100% of teams experienced improvement is Staff Satisfaction.

“We know that when staff has the opportunity to make their work better and make patient care better, their satisfaction goes up. That’s what Releasing Time to Care has been doing for us,” said Lisa Stewart, interim director, Clinical Quality & Patient Safety – Richmond .  “This report tells a story of the amazing commitment of our people to quality care.”
