Four-part webinar series: Language Matters

The Provincial Language Service is hosting a four-part webinar series, Language Matters, aimed at providing a space to share experiences, learn from each other and strengthen our collective understanding of why language matters in health care.

November 28: second webinar on working with deaf people in health care

The second webinar in the series is being held Tuesday, November 28 from 1-2 p.m. PST on the topic of deaf culture & community, and working with deaf people in health care.

Like any culture or community, the intricacies of the community are vast and only fully understood by those that reside within the culture or community – the deaf community is no exception. Join health care providers across the province for this webinar which will provide a snapshot of deaf culture and community.

The webinar will also provide suggestions on ways that health care providers can approach working with deaf people and some tips when working with sign language interpreters. The presenter is Janice Lyons, head of the interpreting department at the Western Institute for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing in Vancouver.

This webinar series will be valuable to anyone who’s interested in expanding their knowledge of the importance of language in health care.
