New VCH collaboration with YMCA: Make Your Move program

Did you know that more than 20% of Canadian adults live with one of the top four chronic diseases: cardiovascular disease, cancer, diabetes, chronic respiratory diseases and four out of five Canadians are at risk? There’s good news—you can delay or even prevent the development of many chronic conditions by making lifestyle changes, such as increasing your physical activity level!

Make Your Move program

Delivered in collaboration with VCH’s Healthy Living Program, Make Your Move is a new pilot program designed for adults at risk of developing type 2 diabetes and other chronic health challenges, such as high blood pressure and high cholesterol.  Although the program is open to anyone, Make Your Move was developed as a next step in the action plan for behavior change for participants of the VCH First Steps to Prevention lifestyle intervention program. Make Your Move aims to help those new to physical activity find suitable options that meet their interests and their needs.

As a program participant you will have the opportunity to:

  • Build an individualized fitness program with the help of a kinesiologist
  • Attend supervised sessions twice per week in a group-based setting
  • Meet others, gain new skills, and support each other while getting active!
  • Benefit from a free 12-week YMCA membership

The program is delivered at Langara Family YMCA in South Vancouver. The fee: $210 +GST.  Financial assistance is available for those in need.
