The Patient and Public Engagement Leadership Survey results are here!

Every year, the Community Engagement team sends out the annual Patient & Public Engagement Survey to Vancouver Coastal Health staff and Board Leadership. The survey is intended to assess the health authority’s capacity for and culture of patient and public engagement. The results of the survey allow us to evaluate our engagement activities and examine how we can enhance our future work.

This year’s results

This was the fifth survey which was sent out and we were pleased to receive 100 responses to the survey. Thank you to those of you who participated in the survey. Here is a snapshot of the results:

  1. We need to enhance orientation with new staff on community engagement and support staff to access resources and tools to spread engagement of patients and their families.
  2. We need to increase community engagement training opportunities for staff and leaders to spread patient and public engagement practices.
  3. We need to align with Communications to inform VCH staff of how patient and public engagement results in better decisions and is improving health outcomes.
  4. We need to support senior leaders in incorporating more community engagement processes in decision-making and organizational planning and grow a deeper understanding of its importance and impact.
  5. We need to utilize innovative methods and tools, including online, to engage the public in health planning.
