Unions misguided in fighting flu shots

Both the B.C. Nurses Union and the Hospital Employees Union are fighting a new policy that will force health workers to get flu shots. Dr. Perry Kendall, B.C.’s provincial health officer, ordered the new rule because health workers, only half of whom have been getting flu shots, have been putting their patients at risk.

Some babies born at St. Paul’s enjoy their stay so much they never want to leave. So they come back – as staff. Several hospital staff members here spend their working days in the same place where they began life.

Maternity nurses also well-fed

Gratitude is a big part of what makes working in the maternity ward at St. Paul’s so rewarding, according to Ward Operations Leader, Jackie Koufie. Parents often show their love and appreciation with food. Every-thing from doughnuts to pizza turns up at the nursing station.
