The North Shore was recently home to the first-ever Geriatric Psychiatry Conference put on by the Older Adult Mental Health Team. The sold out event offered up-to-date, best-practice-based, and practical approaches that North Shore healthcare providers could implement into their work with older adults requiring mental health care.

A variety of local experts donated their time and expertise in order to make the free event the interactive, engaging, and fun educational experience that it was. They presented on topics such as:

  • Medication management in the Elderly with Cognitive Difficulties
  • Abuse and Neglect issues in the Elderly
  • Common Medical Issues in Mentally Ill Elderly
  • Difficult to Manage Behaviors in Dementia

Kudos go to the Organizing Committee of:

  • Dr Arvind Kang, Clinical Manager-OAMH,
  • Pat Townsley, Manager-OAMH
  • Linda Feng, Team Lead-OAMH

As well, the conference could not have occurred without the support of:

  • Department of Psychiatry – Lions Gate Hospital
  • Dr Lance Patrick – Medical Director of Mental Health & Addiction Services
  • Dr Richard Lupton – Co-Senior Medical Director, Coastal
  • Elizabeth Stanger – Director of Coastal Mental Health & Addiction Services
