Copper campaign nets Foundation almost a ton of goodwill

Next time someone proposes “a penny for your thoughts” think of the LGH Psychiatry department and their status as the largest contributors in the recent Pennies for Patients campaign that wound up last week. Proving that there are some heavy thinkers in the department, Psychiatry staff rounded up more than 200 lbs of pennies, winning their challenge against all other LGH departments.

Departments such as ED, Palliative Care, DI and Surgery were also key to the cause helping raise a combined $866 for the LGH Foundation with the soon-to-be-melted coins. The contest was all in good fun but resulted in some heavy lifting as departments collected:

  • Surgery (101.8 lbs)
  • ED (60.6 lbs)
  • DI (36.4 lbs)
  • Palliative/Hospice (32.6 lbs)
  • Mehri’s Coffee Bar (8 lbs)

LGH Foundation President Judy Savage was thankful for the donations as well as the workout provided by collecting the coins. “Thank you to all staff who participated.”
