LGH’s Dawn Daechsel retires early to the “Sounds of Music” (video)

When Lions Gate Hospital’s Dawn Daechsel chose to retire early from her position as Manager of the Neurosciences Program, the Inpatient Rehabilitation and Wound Ostomy Care Programs she wanted to do it in the same quiet way that she’s done so many things over her almost-30-year tenure at LGH.

The problem with that is — because she’s so well known for great collaboration with colleagues and an excellent team member (and leader) during over her almost 30 years here — she’s made too many fans and admirers along the way for her to be able to leave as quietly as she wanted to.

While she officially retired yesterday (April 30) to spend more time with her family, more than 100 of her colleagues and former coworkers from across VCH staged a “Sound of Music” flashmob in the LGH lobby to mark the bittersweet occasion. Whether you’re a fan of the movie or not, check out this short video clip of Dawn’s send-off and the surprise on her face.
