Frank discussions on addictions, drugs, alcohol and recovery offered on the North Shore

As anyone who has ever suffered from a mental health or addiction issue knows, the road to recovery is often one that requires a number of powerful conversations along the way.

In order to help stimulate these types of recovery-oriented discussions, staff from North Shore Mental Health & Addictions have organized a short series of free, drop-in seminars entitled the North Shore Addiction Education Series, taking place over an eight-week period this fall.

This series of educational discussions offers an honest and refreshing understanding of addictions, alcohol and drugs, recovery and the important role that family and social contexts play. The lively sessions are presented weekly by Concurrent Disorders Clinician, Rodrigo Gomez, and cover the following topics:

  • The Development of Addictions – Understanding problematic substance abuse — Sept. 8 & 15
  • Chemicals and the Body – How body systems are affected by alcohol and other drugs — Sept. 22 & 29
  • The Recovery Process – What is treatment? Relapse prevention — Oct. 6 & 20
  • The Family Context – Family dynamics where addiction is a problem — Oct. 27 & Nov. 3

The sessions are held Mondays from 5:15 to 6:45 pm at the offices of the Stepping Stones Concurrent Disorders Service at:

2nd Floor, 990 22nd Street

West Vancouver
