Instead of having a Christmas party, staff at Squamish General Hospital pooled their money to support a single mother with two kids in their community.

Squamish General Hospital staff give back at Christmas to support a community member

This holiday season, the staff at Squamish General Hospital decided to give back to the community in a very special way. In lieu of a staff Christmas party this year, staff decided to sponsor a single mother with two children in the community.

A neat idea was brought forward for any SGH employee interested in participating to donate an hour of their wage to the cause or contribute an item. More than $900 was raised in cash and donations to go towards making this family’s Christmas wish list come true. We filled three boxes full of gifts for the two children and their momma, including PJs, outfits, slippers, hats and scarves, toys, books, toiletries, etc.

On top of all that we were able to give them a bunch of gift certificates that they could us throughout the year. Included in the gift cards were: $300 grocery store dollars, $150 for Source for Sports, $60 at White Spot, two visits for each of them at Airhouse (a $75 value), $25 to use at Brennan Park and a few lottery scratch tickets.

This random act of kindness proves that when a team pulls together, we truly can make a huge impact. Great job Squamish General Hospital!

Way to go ladies! So proud of my gang, and thanks to all the collectors, shoppers, wrappers, deliverers. You already had so much to do before Christmas.
