Procedures are currently in place to ensure patient impact is minimized until the upgrade to the new GE Signa Explorer MRI, similar to the one pictured here, is completed and results of the Cryo Vent are available.

MRI installation update at Lions Gate Hospital

As you are aware, the Lions Gate Hospital MR Scanner was shut down March 9th to allow necessary work required for the installation of an Upgraded MRI Unit. Thanks to the efforts of GE, FMO and other support services we have been able to ramp down the magnet safely, allowing for the dismantling of the old MRI. This process is expected to be completed by April 6th.

Patient Care

The Imaging Department and requesting program continues to manage In-patients scanning in priority order at other VCH MRI sites. Out-patients are also being prioritized and slotted into available time at other sites; however the Out-patient demand exceeds the current capacity. LGH MRI Department has put plans in place to address the backlog when the Upgraded MRI is ramped up.

Next Steps

GE will continue to build the upgrade while we await results of the Cryo Vent from a local Engineering Firm.

We will be providing you with regular information on the progress of the installation of the Upgraded MRI Unit.

How you can help

BCEHS continues to support the transfer of emergent calls, all staff and physicians please be reminded of this and continue to use alternate services such as SNT, Taxi or HandyDart for non-emergent transportation.
