A special sendoff is being organized for the old North Vancouver General Hospital on Sunday, Sept. 25th. Come be part of a unique moment in the history of Lions Gate Hospital.

Volunteers needed for grand farewell to North Vancouver General Hospital

Before we say adieu to the old North Vancouver General Hospital, more recently known as the Activation Building, the Lions Gate Hospital Foundation is hosting a commemorative event for staff, physicians and their families, the community and all those who have had a connection with the building to come say goodbye. It will be an affair to remember.

For many of its 87 years, North Vancouver General—predecessor to Lions Gate Hospital—was the North Shore’s community hospital. Now, the venerable brick building nestled between the HOpe Centre and LGH’s acute care building on 13th Street is slated for demolition to make way for the future, but not without this last opportunity for the community to say thank you and goodbye.

Mark your calendars

The Grand Farewell Commemoration for North Vancouver General Hospital is Sunday, Sept. 25 from 10 am to 4 pm.  East 13th Street between St. George’s and St. Andrews will be closed to traffic to accommodate food trucks, musical entertainment, children’s activities, tours of the old building’s main floor, a Tea House at the HOpe Centre, A&W root beer float stand, antique fire tuck and ambulance, historical displays and an invitational car show featuring 75 classic cars.

But to make the commemoration a success, volunteers will be needed in the weeks and days leading up to Sept. 25 and on the day itself for two-hour shifts.

“This is a momentous occasion for all of our staff, physicians, their families, patients and the community to participate in and enjoy,” says Leanne Appleton, Clinical Director, LGH Redevelopment Project/Perioperative Services. “Come and be a part of a unique moment in the history of Lions Gate Hospital.”
