Wondering how the renos are going behind the hoarding at LGH? Wonder no more. The new OCC project is on schedule for a late summer completion.

Update: LGH’s new Outpatient Care Centre on track for summer completion

Although there are still a number of months of hard work ahead as you can see from the above photo, construction of the new Outpatient Care Centre (OCC) at Lions Gate Hospital is on track for a late summer completion.

The renovation is part of Phase 1 of the expansion, redesign and redevelopment of the planned OCC project that will enable care providers to take a more patient-centred approach than the previous lay-out allowed for.

The redevelopment of the OCC is part of the LGH NOW Campaign, which also includes a redesigned atrium (Phase 2 – stay tuned for more details). Two milestones were achieved last fall when the Foundation moved into new offices next door to Employee Engagement and a new Sacred Space/Chapel in the western end of the cafeteria opened.

Key elements

“The rebuild is moving along nicely,” says Barb Ferreira, Program Manager, Ambulatory Care & Clinical Support/Chemo Clinic and Outpatient Rehabilitation Services.

“Construction started in the fall of 2016 after the last clinical team was moved to a temporary location. We are on budget and on-time to complete the project for later this summer. The clinical move in date will be finalized in the coming months once when we are closer to the completion ‎date. “

When the OCC is completed, the clinical teams who temporarily relocated to 2West will return to the new space in a staged fashion to ensure continuity with patient appointments. ‎

The new space takes advantage of natural light and higher ceiling heights that were previously not accessible.

The new OCC will have:

  • 17 consult/exam rooms
  • medical day care infusion clinic (four additional care spaces)
  • team clerk space in the “back of house”

“Once the teams settle into their new space and workflow, we will gradually introduce Cerner in order for all the ambulatory teams to integrate into the electronic patient record system,” says Barb. “It’s an exciting time for outpatient care at Lions Gate Hospital.”

When it opens, services currently on 2West that will return to the OCC include:

  • Joint Replacement Access Clinic (JRAC)
  • Rapid Access Spine Clinic (RASC)
  • Pre-Surgical Screening (PSS)
  • Pre-Admission Clinic (PAC)
  • pulmonary function
  • spirometry
  • respiratory outpatient clinic
