Powell River resident praises hospital staff & physicians for knowledge and dedication

Dear Powell River General Hospital:

In September 2016, I was diagnosed with cancer in multiple locations; this started a long series of CT scans, x-rays, blood tests, biopsies, transfusions and chemotherapy. Fortunately, all of these services were available at Powell River General Hospital. During the some seven months of treatment, I found the hospital staff to be extremely efficient and helpful. The staff in the X-ray department, in the laboratory, in ambulatory care and oncology were not only knowledgeable but extremely co-operative and caring. I found doctors Head, Crocker, Hoffert, Burns, McDonald, Takar and Makarewicz to be everything one could expect of a doctor. My many appointments were met with minimum waiting times and were also so informative and comforting.

On April third, my wife rushed me into the emergency care in the hospital. I was experiencing multiple dizzy spells, Doctors Head and Uhlmann quickly determined that my heart was indeed stopping for brief periods. With some very expert care in emergency, I was fitted with a temporary pacemaker and airlifted off to St. Paul’s Hospital. There, I was fitted with a permanent pacemaker and returned to good health. I experienced wonderful and expert care here in Powell River Emergency and enroute in Vancouver.

I can only offer many thanks and kudos to the Powell River hospital emergency staff, to Doctors Head and Uhlmann, and the air ambulance team and to the staff at St. Paul’s. I found all of them to be very knowledgeable and efficient. I believe and appreciate that we have an extremely good health care staff and system.
