And the recipients for the 11th annual North Shore Health Care Awards are….

Staff and physicians from across the North Shore gathered in the gym at Lions Gate Hospital today for the 11th Annual LGH Foundation’s North Shore Health Care Awards for Outstanding Achievement. The event was emceed again by Dr. Allan Burgmann and sidekick Sean Parr (Director, Strategy Deployment).

The recipients of this year’s awards are:

Workplace Inspiration

  • Lauren Millar, Registered Nurse, 6 West Orthopedics at LGH

Lauren goes above and beyond each day she comes to work. Her patients’ needs are cared for like she is caring for her own family, and she inspires her colleagues and students with her energy, enthusiasm and thoroughness in how she does her work.  In addition to providing exemplary care to her patients, Lauren goes out of her way to build morale with the team.  Making lemonade on hot summer days, bringing in treats to say “thank you” to others, and organizing fun events for her colleagues are just some of the ways Lauren energizes the workplace.

Clinical Practice Award

  • Jeff Kusaka, Registered Psychiatric Nurse at The HOpe Centre

Jeff has worked as a nurse in the acute psychiatric unit for eight years. In this time, he has become a valued team member on the fourth floor of the HOpe Centre.  In fact, his colleagues describe him as one of the “unsung” heroes of the front-line staff.  Jeff is recognized for his resourcefulness, his collaborative spirit and his valuable contribution to finding solutions to organizational and IT challenges. Above all, he is described as compassionate in his care for patients in finding ways to provide reprieve from their illness.

Dr. Les Janz Leadership Award

  • Natasha Mohan, Team Lead, Respiratory Therapy

Natasha came into her role as Team Lead two years ago. Through her dedication and collaborative approach to her role, she has effectively improved the culture of the Respiratory Department and earned the respect and admiration of her colleagues. In the short time in her role, she has implemented new practice standards, maintained stability through two departmental moves, identified opportunities for continuing education for the team, and most significantly – facilitated the opening of a new pulmonary function lab.

Spirit of Philanthropy Award

  • Mehri Parsi, Sodexo (Mehri’s Café) at LGH

She has been an enthusiastic cheerleader for the LGH Foundation not the least of which has been volunteering at every single one of our 21 annual golf tournaments, many of our galas and numerous events in the community and within the hospital.  In addition to being a volunteer extraordinare, many of us probably know her better as a barista extraordinaire as well. Mehri has dedicated countless hours to the Foundation and she never stops finding ways to give back to her community.

Congratulations to all the nominees and recipients.
