Congratulations to the students who have received the 2012 bursary awards from the Richmond Hospital & Healthcare Auxiliary. Tonie Castro received $1,500; Jocelyn Ang received $500; and Kevin Chi received $1,000. They are all pursuing studies in the field of nursing, and all are volunteers at Richmond Hospital.

Tonie will attend Langara College and is enrolled in the nursing program. Tonie has volunteered as a navigator at the hospital since February. Her long term goal is to become a community nurse. Jocelyn will be in her first year at Kwantlen Polytechnic University in Langley, and volunteers in the Emergency Department at Richmond Hospital. Jocelyn’s goal is to become a nurse. Kevin is attending UBC in his fourth year studying microbiology and immunology.  He hopes to go into nursing. He has volunteered at the hospital for over a year, originally as a navigator and currently is working in the Emergency Department.

This year was the first year the Auxiliary offered three rather than the usual two bursaries – a fitting way to celebrate the 50 years that the Auxiliary has served the community, as we look to strengthen our organization in the future by encouraging youth to engage in their community and volunteer

Well done Tonie, Kevin and Jocelyn! Thank you to all those to submitted an application.

The RHHA Bursaries are awarded annually to a volunteer entering the second or subsequent year of post-secondary education in Canada in a health-care related field. Bursaries are based on scholastic success, volunteer achievements, financial need and the character of the applicant.
