“The generous gift makes me feel valued and encouraged”

The following letter was received from Kathryn Barczi, MSW, Perinatal Social Work, RH Birth Centre:

Dear Scott McCarten & Strategic Initiative and Innovation and the Education Committee;

To all who have provided so generously to the education fund and who were a part of the grant review and approval process, I would like to extend my deepest appreciation for the exceedingly generous gift that you have provided to cover the costs of my conference.  What a pleasure it was to be with my fellow colleagues from across Canada and the U.S. who brought a wealth of current research, practice, and networking opportunities that will directly impact my practice with our patients and staff here at Richmond Hospital and beyond, as I share my learnings with others.

I am thrilled and motivated to get cracking on the NAPSW 2015 conference* that I will be hosting in our beautiful city and eagerly anticipate drawing in VCH members to speak at and engage with the international social work community.  Upon networking with many colleagues at the conference in San Antonio, there is a buzz of excitement to visit us here in Vancouver and engage with our professional colleagues here in Canada.

I am energized and excited to be back on the floor after an incredible week.  I sure hope this letter comes through as a genuine thank you – not just a professional, dutiful thank you note, but know how blessed I felt while I was at the conference that  my employer would grant such a generous gift to me – it not only impacted me professionally, but on a personal level as well.  I feel valued and encouraged by my employer and you all know how that directly relates to professional satisfaction and our desire to perform well!!

With a huge and warm thank you!!!

Kathryn is leading the 39th Annual NAPSW conference “Leaf-ing” our mark on perinatal social work”, being held in Vancouver May 6-9, 2015.  Social workers interested in getting involved in this exciting event are invited to contact Kathryn.

The Richmond Education Fund was set up earlier this year, and will receive funding from the Richmond Hospital Foundation and their generous donors, as well as through a percentage of the funds we earn through Pay for Performance (P4P) revenue for achieving targets around patient flow and other measures. Since launching in January, $21,000 in education funding has been granted. There’s an additional $28,0000 available this year, so get your requests in soon!
