Auxiliary pledges $200,000 to VCH Richmond in 2015

The Richmond Hospital/Healthcare Auxiliary has — once again — delivered a Promissory Note for the sum of $200,000 to be spent in support of the delivery of health care in Richmond throughout 2015.

The auxiliary’s 2015 gift will fund new “wish list” equipment in the Richmond Hospital Birth Centre, the OR, ED and ICU. It will also be used to purchase equipment for the new Short Stay Pediatric Unit that is now under construction in the hospital’s Red Zone.

The Richmond Hospital/Healthcare Auxiliary’s 2015 promissory note was presented at the society’s Annual General Meeting, held April 8.

“It’s due to the tireless dedication of our members that we can donate another $200,000 to fund equipment purchases for VCH Richmond,” said Christa Schneider, president, Richmond Hospital/Healthcare Auxiliary. “The auxiliary’s volunteers work at the Steveston Thrift Store, the Lottery Booth and Gift Shop at the hospital, and in the Tuck Shop at Minoru Residence. All are committed to ensuring the community’s good health and continued access to top-notch healthcare.”

Last year, the auxiliary’s $200,000 promissory note also funded new hospital equipment as well as upgrades to the patient lounges in the Yellow Zone tower.

During the past year, the Auxiliary has provided funding for music therapy in Psychiatry, Oncology, Palliative Care, Lions Manor Bridgeport, the Minoru Residence, and Mental Health for a total of $110,700.

The auxiliary also funds Recreational Therapy in Lions Manor Bridgeport and the Minoru Residence for a total of $35,000. For the perinatal loss program, $2,000 was donated.  The Auxiliary covers the cost of maintenance and management of the Lions Manor Bridgeport and the Minoru Residence buses for a total of $13,500. The Auxiliary also offers three bursaries to students in a health-related field for a total of $3,000.A further $3,000 was  donated to Lions Manor Bridgeport  for the provision of Alzheimer’s training tools.

Auxiliary members work throughout the hospital in Surgical Day Care, Emergency Department, Cancer Care Clinic, Healthy Heart Program, Ambulatory Care and Medical Imaging as well as the Gift Shop, the Minoru Tuck Shop and the Lottery Booth. Auxiliary members also provide special services, such as providing maternity ice packs to new mothers and creating flower arrangements that are sold in the hospital’s gift shop.
