Heroic poster effort scores another win for H&CH nurses

Congratulations to the RNs and LPNs of VCH Richmond Home and Community Health for collaborating on the winning poster entry for 2016 Nursing Week. The Superman-inspired creation landed the team a pizza party, courtesy of Professional Practice.

“We came up with this Super Heroes theme for our poster because we believe that all nurses –not just those in Home Health — are like super heroes,” said Amanda Chow, a Richmond Home Health RN. “Nurses are always on-the-fly, doing everything they can to help others, every step of the way.”

This is the second year that the Home and Community Health nursing team has won the Nursing Week poster contest. The team is already pumped to make it a trifecta in 2017.

“We’re going to pull out all-the-stops for next year!” joked team lead Debbie Sanderson.

The 2016 Nursing Week poster contest saw seven entries from across Richmond’s nursing spectrum.  “All the entries were really, really great,” said Karen Madayag, Nursing Practice Initiatives Lead who, along with Cindy Elliott, interim director, Professional Practice, chose the winner. “It was a tough decision to make.”

What is Community Nursing?

We are nurses who provide nursing care in the community at the patient’s home as well as in our community care clinic.

With a patient and family-centred approach, we collaborate with patients and their caregivers to set goals. Our nurses provide education and support to clients on how to manage their own health so that they can live as independently and safely as possible.

We work together with other health care disciplines to cover a wide range of services, including wound care, medication management, home IV program, palliative care. Through palliative care, we support our patients and their family during end-of-life by managing symptoms, enhancing comfort, and providing emotional support.
