Garratt Wellness Centre will be closed temporarily from Dec. 28, 2016 to March 31, 2017 to allow for upgrades and renovations.

Temporary closure of Garratt Wellness Centre begins Dec. 28

The City of Richmond has been successful in securing dollars from the Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Fund to provide upgrades for mechanical ventilation , heating and cooling and new lights to upgrade the Garratt Wellness Centre.

As such, Garratt will be closed temporarily from Dec. 28, 2016 to March 31, 2017. For the duration of the upgrade, the programs that operate from this site will move temporarily to 8100 Granville Ave.

The programs and services delivered from Garratt will be closed over Christmas and will start up again on January 3 from their new temporary home – 8100 Granville Ave.  Computers and phones at Garratt will be powered down on Dec. 28.

The programs moving temporarily include:

  • Bariatrics
  • Outpatient Nutrition Counselling Program
  • Pacific Post Partum Depression Support Group
  • Post Partum Depression Exercise Class
  • OASIS Workshop
  • GYM Heart/Diabetes Wellness Fitness Group (City)
  • Foster Parent Kitchen Group
  • Child & Adolescent CoRe Meeting
  • Richmond Chinese Cdn Diabetes Cooking Research Study

The past months have been busy ones at Garratt. Space, furniture, fax lines, phones, computers, packing, relocating scheduled meetings from one room to another; all had to be coordinated in time for the Garratt closure. Additionally, referral sources have been redirected, and visible signs announcing the temporary closure have been posted.

“Big thanks to Chris Salgado Patti Caldwell, Jill Philips and Leslie MacDougall who have been working away to meet the office requirements for each program and service, and are almost at the finish line,” said Diane Bissenden. “We must also thank everyone else for their cooperation in helping to make this temporary transition move as smoothly as possible, including the City of Richmond for providing bins for packing and a moving van.”
