The Richmond Hospital Healthcare Auxiliary has purchased the building it has been renting for its Thrift Shop. Plans are now underway to restore this historic building, located at 3731 Chatham Street in Steveston.

RH Auxiliary buys a piece of history

The former Steveston Methodist Church, now the auxiliary Thrift Shop, is the oldest church building still sitting on its original site in Steveston.

Congratulations to the Richmond Hospital Healthcare Auxiliary on its purchase of the landmark Steveston heritage building that has served as the group’s Thrift Shop for the past several years.

Located at 3171 Chatham Street, the former Steveston Methodist Church, built in 1894, is the oldest church that still sits on its original site in Richmond. Its architectural style reflects the modest early church structures which served the populations of Steveston, particularly those working in the canning and fishing industries.

Prior to the auxiliary leasing the space, the old church previously housed a bike store. Plans are now underway to restore the historic structure while continuing to operate the Thrift Shop from it.

Auxiliary members, however, need help to get the renovations done.

Direct donations can be made at the shop and donations over $20 are eligible for a tax receipt. To receive your tax receipt, please give your donation along with your name and address to the shop’s Day Supervisor so that it can be issued and mailed to you.

Thank you in advance for all your help.
