As one of North America’s leading natural gas infrastructure companies, Spectra Energy offers their employees a unique initiative dedicated to volunteerism called ‘Helping Hands in Action’. Last summer, Spectra Energy staff headed to the BC Professional Fire Fighters’ Burn, Plastic and Trauma Unit (BPTU) at VGH to give the outdoor healing garden a new face-lift. The company has donated over $150,000 to the BPTU since 2010.

A deep personal connection inspired Spectra Energy staff to participate in giving the healing garden a much-needed refresh. Employee Wayne Lloyd is grateful for the excellent care and treatment his son,Colton, previously received at the BPTU. This unit is the only site in BC where severely burned patients can receive intensive specialized care.Colton suffered multiple burns to his body and was the first patient to receive treatments using new technology aimed at reducing pain and scarring. Coincidently, this innovative technology was made possible by a previous donation from Spectra Energy beforeColton’s accident.

VGH & UBC Hospital Foundation recognizes Spectra Energy as a key corporate partner in helping ensure health care excellence in our hospitals for patients across BC.
