VGH Shoppers Drug Mart supports OvCaRe – and you can too!

Shoppers Drug Mart staff have chosen to support the OvCaRe program through the company’s Tree Of Life campaign.

Since 2000, the Ovarian Cancer Research (OvCaRe) team at VGH and the BC Cancer Agency has been changing the way ovarian cancer is treated, not just in B.C. but around the world. Thanks to OvCaRe, we now know that ovarian cancer is not just single disease, but has at least five subtypes that must each be treated differently. By tailoring research and treatment efforts to each subtype, progress is being made in stopping ovarian cancer in its tracks.

Right now, the VGH & UBC Hospital Foundation is focusing fundraising efforts on OvCaRe’s Precursors to Prevention: An Approach to the Early Detection of Ovarian Cancers.

Other members of the VCH community have also gotten behind this important initiative. Staff at the Shoppers Drug Mart located in the Gordon & Leslie Diamond Health Care Centre have chosen to support the OvCaRe research program through the company’s Tree Of Life campaign

National in scope yet locally based, Shoppers Drug Mart’s annual Tree of Life campaign gives customers and employees the opportunity to donate directly to organizations that make a difference to women’s health in their own communities.

Next time you’re in Shoppers Drug Mart at VGH, you can purchase and personalize a “Tree of Life” icon; a “leaf” for a loonie, a “butterfly” for $5, an “acorn” for $10 and a “cardinal” for $50. The icons are prominently displayed on the Tree of Life on the store window and 100% of campaign proceeds are donated to the OvCaRe program. The Tree Of Life campaign runs until October 26.
