Did you know 310 women are diagnosed with ovarian cancer in B.C. each year?

Since 2000, the Ovarian Cancer Research Initiative (OvCaRe) has made major discoveries and contributions in its effort to help women with ovarian cancer. Under the scientific leadership of Drs. David Huntsman, Dianne Miller, and Blake Gilks, OvCaRe has now become an international leader in ovarian cancer research. Their groundbreaking work focuses on screening, prevention, early detection, and treatment to help improve survival rates. OvCaRe researchers and their discoveries are changing the way ovarian cancer patients are treated in BC and around the world.

Eager to help stop ovarian cancer in its tracks is local retailer Shoppers Drug Mart (located in the Gordon & Leslie Diamond Health Care Centre at VGH). Last fall, staff chose to support the Ovarian Cancer Research – Precursors to Prevention Program through the company’s Tree Of Life campaign. The Tree of Life campaign is one of the leading partnership programs of the Shoppers Drug Mart WOMEN platform – the Company’s commitment to improving the health of Canadian women in body, mind and spirit. All proceeds were donated to the Ovarian Cancer Prevention program.

VGH & UBC Hospital Foundation thanks Shoppers Drug Mart, its dedicated employees and loyal customers in a combined fundraising effort to support ovarian cancer research.
