Final concept plan and policy for Pearson Dogwood Lands presented to City of Vancouver next week

The Pearson Dogwood Policy Statement will come before Vancouver’s Planning, Transportation & Environment Committee on Wednesday, January 22 at 9:30 a.m. This policy statement is the culmination of 15 months of work and dedication from the public, site stakeholders and staff from Lower Mainland Facilities Management and VCH.

“It has been a remarkable journey so far and we are looking forward to the next phase,” said Brad Foster, External Affairs, Lower Mainland Facilities Management.

The policy statement includes the Best and Final Design for the site, and discussion at this meeting will focus on:

  • Land use and sustainability
  • Density, building forms, heights, and character
  • Public benefits
  • Parks and open space
  • Transportation and circulation

A positive decision by Vancouver City Council on this policy will enable VCH to enter into the re-zoning phase of the redevelopment – the second phase of approvals required by the City of Vancouver.

What comes next?

VCH leadership and the Pearson Dogwood planning team will continue to work with the residents and families of the George Pearson Centre and the Dogwood Lodge on the design of new housing and replacement facilities. This work will be an integral part of the re-zoning phase for the 25 acre site and is expected to take upwards of two years.

A little more context

Pearson Dogwood Redevelopment is a long-term project. Due to the redevelopment’s extensive and on-going public process, project construction would not begin before 2015 and will likely extend outward for the next eight to 10 years.
