“I can’t thank you enough for the care my mom received”

After her mother passed away, one daughter has nothing but praise for the VGH ICU physicians and staff her helped through a very difficult time. In her own words, she explains why…

To whom it may concern

My mom was admitted in the ICU care at the Vancouver General Hospital.  I can’t thank enough for the care my mom received by ICU medical staff and doctors – Dr. Isaac and Dr. Rush.

My mom passed away the morning of May 6, 2015. During the time I was at ICU to see my mom, Meredith (whom I didn’t even think to ask of her last name) was the nurse who looked after my mom for 3 consecutive nights and who was there at the final stage of my mom’s life when I had to say goodbye and let her go.

Meredith helped me understand what was going on with my mom. She explained to me the equipments that were supporting her life; what she was doing to make my mom comfortable and what will happen when comfort care begins. With the distress, pain and emotions I was feeling all that time, Meredith helped me through it.

I would also like to express my thanks and appreciation to Sophia Philion-Hunter, social worker, ICU. Sophia was there to help me understand what was comfort care. She assisted me with getting family members who were out of town to be able to come here quicker.

I can’t thank Meredith and Sophia enough.

Please help me communicate this to both of them, and please let their seniors, head doctor(s) that they report to at ICU know how they both helped me through the difficult time my mom was there until the end.
