Sharon Stapleton: a leader, a nurse and an inspiration to many.

Sharon Stapleton Memorial Leadership Education Bursary welcomes nominations

Nominations are currently being accepted for the inaugural Sharon Stapleton Memorial Leadership Education Bursary, a program that awards up to $5,000 to a VCH employee to fund leadership development.

The bursary was established in memory of Sharon Stapleton, a long-standing VCH leader who spent more than a decade at VGH and UBC Hospital in a variety of roles ranging from clinical educator, to patient care coordinator to operations director. As a mentor and beloved colleague, she strongly believed in building the leadership capacity in health care; thus, her family has established the fund with VGH & UBC Hospital Foundation to continue her legacy of inspiring others to learn and grow.

The bursary is available to nursing or allied health care professionals within Vancouver Acute who have demonstrated strong leadership potential. Candidates will typically be nominated by their supervisor or a member of the senior management team, although candidates are not prohibited from self-selecting. All applications, however, must be sponsored by the candidate’s current immediate supervisor. Applications will include the candidate’s career objectives and any special interests/initiatives in improving health care function, as well as an outline of the financial need for the funds.

Nominations close on September 23, 2016.

The award recipient will be announced at an event at VGH on Monday, November 7, 2016. The successful recipient is required to attend this event.

Nomination information and additional details are now online. Additional questions on the program or nomination can be directed via email to VANursingAwards@vch.ca.
