“Hannah really cares about the patients”

When a patient’s post-op recovery turned difficult, his care team – and one nurse in particular – made him feel safe. Here’s why:

I recently had a kidney stone operation at VGH on Sept 7 and released on Sept 9. I was in unit 4F.

From my very first consultation with Dr. Ben Chew on Aug 12, when he saw me between operations. he was very friendly, open and explained everything which made me feel better.

My operation was not until Sept 7. Upon arrival, all the staff was very friendly.

My first meeting with my operating team was going over the team plan in the operating room. Again everyone was quite pleasant and informative, and I felt in good hands.

Later in the post-op recovery I again could not believe how pleasant all the Drs, Nurses and support staff was.

When my bed was being moved around for CT scans, even all the support staff was friendly.

When I was transferring to my ward, my nurse from post-op recovery came over and told me the name of the nurse looking after me. When I arrived upstairs she was there to greet me with a hello and a smile.

My nurse was Hannah and she tried to do everything she could to make not only my stay better, but the other patients that I saw her interacting with also.

I was supposed to be released on Thurs Sept 8. Early afternoon after the Dr removed the tube from my kidney I went into extreme pain and discomfort, chills, sweats, could not get warm or stop shivering. Had to stay another night. Hannah was trying everything to help, she was even asking my opinion about what to try.

I could see that Hannah was really worried about me. All evening and night I was continuously checked on by my Drs and Nurses.

As much as the reason for being there was not nice, I felt treated with kindness and respect and warmth by everyone. My stay was made more comfortable by the feeling I got from everyone, specially Hannah.

It seems like Hannah really cares about the patients in her care and I could not feel more safe and looked after.

A Big Thank You to all involved for all the kindness by all the staff.

PS: I have been telling everybody about my great experience with the Drs and Nurses and support staff
