MMU team makes national headlines

In response to the increasing number of overdose-related deaths, VCH has opened overdose prevention sites at key locations in the Downtown Eastside (DTES), as well as the BC Mobile Medical Unit (MMU). Located at 58 West Hastings, the MMU opened December 13, 2016 as an alternative medical care unit for patients who overdose.

From December 13 to January 2, a total of 309 patients – including 172 overdose cases – attended the MMU. An average of 17 patients arrived each day of operation.

While our new DTES sites demonstrate our ability to be nimble and respond quickly to a growing health crisis, they’re also fine examples of the compassion of Vancouver staff and physicians — and that’s exactly what The Globe and Mail chose to highlight in its recent story on the MMU.
