Meet Chelsea Bennie

Community Transitions Occupational Therapist, Vancouver Chelsea

How long have you worked at VCH?

Since 2007; I started out as a Volunteer Coordinator with Three Bridges before I was an OT.

Your VCH contribution. Tell us what you do at VCH in one sentence.

I work on smoothing the transition process from hospital to home for some of our more complicated patients that have been hospitalized for a long time.

One thing that we might be surprised to find out about you:

No one who works with me is surprised to hear that I sneeze in sixes. Or that my nickname is Hurricane because I come with a flurry of papers and spread of OT tools everywhere I go. People do always seem to be surprised to hear that I don’t drink coffee or tea. So when I join for coffee in the mornings, I just order a hot water like my little Chinese grandmother.

Favorite hobby:

I volunteer with the Special Olympics and we are always recruiting more volunteers to help coach or run special events!!

Three things you always have in your fridge:

1. Leftovers. 2. I eat out. 3. All the time.

What makes you happy?

Puppies, the Beatles, grilled cheese sandwiches, people and, as a direct result my job, magic, mysteries and 15 new episodes of Arrested Development.

Most healthy habit:

One-minute plank breaks on the office floor when charting at the computer for too long! I try and get my deskmates to join if they’re willing.

Favourite vacation spot or place you’ve visited:

India is my favourite place of all time; the colours, the people and the culture!
