I provide leadership and expertise in population health assessment, disease surveillance and epidemiological investigations within the Office of the Chief Medical Health Officer. Lately, I have been primarily focused on launching an exciting new initiative called My Health My Community. We hope it will change how the health of our communities is assessed and provide our local governments and community partners with better information on shaping our communities to support overall health and well-being.

One thing that we might be surprised to find out about you:

During my undergraduate years, I worked as a bouncer in the bars and clubs on the Antrim Coast of Northern Ireland.

Favorite hobby?

The days of participating in competitive team sports has given away to the desire to be able to walk into work unaided (injury free). So it’s a toss up between immersing myself in a good novel, acquiring a new electronic device, or exploring local neighbourhood playgrounds with my daughter!

Three things you always have in your fridge:

Beer (mostly Czech or Belgian), tonic water and hummus.

Most healthy habit:

Going for a run 3 times a week, and playing football once a week (NB: the one that actually requires the use of your foot!).

What makes you happy?

Travelling, quality time with family and friends, and following my favourite sports: football (Liverpool FC), cricket (any team that beats the Aussies!) and ice-hockey (Edmonton Oilers) preferably with the accompaniment of my ‘must haves’ in the fridge.

Favourite vacation spot or place you’ve visited:

Any sunny beachside location with my three-year-old old daughter and wife. Recently that has been Maui, Hawaii.
