Meet Chantale Pamplin
Director
Clinical Quality and Patient Safety, Lions Gate Hospital
How long have you worked at VCH?
For nine weeks in this position! But I worked at Vancouver General Hospital as a respiratory therapist from 1998 to 2005.
Your VCH contribution. Tell us what you do at VCH in one to two sentences.
I help to ensure our systems are safe for patients, families, and staff, and that patients receive the highest quality care. This means initiating best practice initiatives from research, the Ministry of Health, and around the world. I work closely with our infection control practitioners to ensure our patients are protected from hospital acquired infections.
One thing that we might be surprised to find out about you:
I do embroidery.
Favorite thing about your work?
I love working in health care – everyday I get to work with new people and learn something new. I miss working directly with patients, but I like knowing my work influences the quality of their care.
How does your work contribute to the VCH True North goals?
My work touches all aspects of the True North Goals: For “Provide the Best Care,” all of the Quality and Patient Safety goals focus on providing the best care. We are rolling out the CAUTI initiative across Coastal to ensure our patients receive best practice care in aspects of urinary catheter care and the 48-6 initiative, which will help to prevent functional decline in our adult patients while in hospital.
For “Innovate for Sustainability,” we are starting The Productive Operating Theatre (TPOT) initiative in April at both Lions Gate and Squamish Hospitals – TPOT is an innovative framework from the UK for improving teamwork, efficiency, and patient care in our operating environments. So exciting!
Three things you always have in your fridge?
Fresh berries, cream for coffee, and good cheese.
What makes you happy?
Spending time with my family outdoors – and good coffee.
Most healthy habit?
I juice – I drink a daily green juice of kale, spinach and green apples.
Favourite vacation spot?
Maui, Hawaii. We love spending time on the beach in Napili Bay.
Currently in the CD player?
Of Monsters and Men – Into the Woods.
