Meet Larisa MacGregor
Telehealth Clerk and LPN
R.W.Large Memorial Hospital, Bella Bella
How long have you worked at VCH?
I came to Bella Bella in the spring of 2013 for a temporary assignment; I fell in love with the location and the people of this remote coastal area and never left.
Your VCH contribution. Tell us what you do at VCH in one to two sentences.
My role in telehealth facilitates is helping patients in a remote setting to access specialist in the urban centers. The patients are linked through a secure network, with real time consults through video conferencing and high resolution cameras.
One thing that we might be surprised to find out about you:
Six weeks ago, I started to learn to ride a motorcycle. I have wanted to ride my whole life, but was very busy being grounded and staying home to raise my four children. As they are all grown now, it’s time for me to pack my bags and just go where my heart tells me to…
Favorite thing about your work?
I have had a lot of autonomy to grow in my position and to work both in the hospital and the community with my role. However, what really still absolutely memorizes me is the beauty that I am surrounded with. The hospital sits directly on the coast line. Each patient’s room has a large picturesque view of the ocean. On any given day I can watch whales go by, or an eagle perch itself on the tree directly outside. I frequently am woken up by the wolves at night. My most favorite thing while working is to take a moment and simply watch the ocean traffic of cruise ships, barges, local fishermen and the coast guard.
Three things you always have in your fridge?
Ice cold water, avocados and eggs.
What makes you happy?
It’s such a cliché I know, but family and friends, absolutely.
Most healthy habit?
The ability to be present in the job and disconnect and be present in my personal life while sharing an equal commitment to both.
Favourite vacation spot?
Black Beach in Mompiche, Ecuador.
Music currently in your CD player or in high-play on your iPod:
