Annette Floyd
Job Title
Clinical Coordinator
Department/Location
Bridge Clinic
How long have you worked at VCH?
Eight years.
Tell us what you do at VCH in one or two sentences:
I coordinate the day-to-day operations at Bridge Clinic and manage the flow of our refugee clients from their initial health screening to transition to the mainstream healthcare system. We’ll be seeing the majority of refugees from Syria, once they arrive.
What’s your favourite thing about your work?
Being part of an amazing and ridiculously dedicated team that strives to help some of the world’s most marginalized or traumatized people find health, hope and happiness in Canada.
How does your work contribute to the VCH True North goals?
By providing newly-arrived refugees with initial primary care in a clinic that has expertise in dealing with their unique needs, we hope to set our clients on a course that maximizes their health as they move forward in their new country. I am also obsessed with raising awareness and understanding within the health care system of the challenges that refugees may face accessing adequate care, especially if they do not speak English or lack literacy.
One thing we might be surprised to learn about you:
I’m a huge Green Bay Packers fan and a shareholder in the team.
Three things you always have in your fridge:
Cheese, green curry paste and peanut butter.
Who or what inspires you?
My clients, many of whom have experienced tremendous horrors, but who get up every day and step out the door to face the world with courage.
Most healthy habit:
Driving less than once a month.
Favourite vacation spot:
South Africa.
