Tell us what you do at VCH in one or two sentences:
As a clinical pharmacist I review patients’ medications for appropriateness, dosage, interactions and ensure patients know why and what they are taking to improve their health and compliance. I also enjoy discussing medication issues with other health professionals.
What’s your favourite thing about your work?
Having a patient (transferred from another hospital) tell me “thank you” for making changes in his medication so that he got his first night’s sleep in 30 days.
Which True North goal does your work contribute to the most?
Provide the best care
One thing we might be surprised to learn about you:
I am the first pharmacist from UBC with a BSc(Pharm) to get licensed to practice in South Africa. This was in 1986.
Who or what inspires you?
I am inspired by people with a positive attitude, who are grateful and live life to the fullest. In the hospital, patients who have various health challenges but have a great outlook on life also inspire me.
Most healthy habit:
Skate-skiing in the winter and eating home grown produce in the summer.
Favourite vacation spot:
So far, South Africa – it’s an amazing country with incredibly diverse geography, animals and plants and wonderful people.
