How can we support each other to advance our skills and knowledge in Patient+Public Engagement (PPE)?

First she was a dietitian and mother of two, now the Leader of VCH/PHC’s Clinical Smoking Cessation Program, can add successful video producer to her resume. Leah Hawirko spearheaded the “Doin’ it Right” music video, which recently won a Vancouver Coastal Health People First Award.

The video was developed to support the Smoke-Free Premises Policy and is included in staff training including new staff orientations.

“It’s very gratifying to be recognized with a People First award, both for myself and for everyone on the team,” said Leah. “This video was definitely a labour of love for all involved. While it was a lot of fun to make, it was also an incredible amount of work – doing this on top of our regular jobs and committing evenings and weekends to it. We were so thrilled with the results and the reception it has received across the country.”

VCH signed on with the Workplace Health Call Centre for two reasons: to be able to gather accurate and complete information about staff injuries and near misses that improve safety outcomes, and to insure that employees get timely processing of their WorkSafe claims.

Quality Forum 2013: Inspiring Improvement takes place February 28 and March 1 in Vancouver. The event features over 150 presenters, 63 breakout sessions, and four plenary speakers who bring an exciting blend of experience, innovation and inspiration.

Dr. Cochrane will share some of his experiences in quality improvement and discuss how he has integrated healthcare leadership into his clinical career. He will also lead a case study discussion for all attendees.

The BC Clinical Research Infrastructure Network (BCCRIN) wants to change this by getting your feedback, especially from those who have declined to participate in a clinical study.

Performers, families and friends braved the challenging road conditions to join the clients at the 3rd annual Holly Jolly Concert on December 19. A showcase of talent from staff, a former client and friends of GFS provided a diverse evening of laughter and delight.
